Tamiflu can stop the flu virus from spreading into your body if you take it within two days of flu symptoms. Tamiflu can also provide you help in keeping the virus from making you sick if you are exposed to someone with flu. It is not use for the substitute of flu shot.
Flu Symptoms
Flu is basically a collection of symptoms which can occur suddenly. It can be due to fever which can occur due to rise of body temperature due to illness or injury. Temperature can be more than 100° F. Chills which are not related to cold can also be sign of flu. There can be headache with the flu and it can be related to body aches or nasal congestion. This medication can be used by children one year or older for the treatment and prevention of influenza. There can be different flu strain in different areas and you can get flu if you are exposed to it.
Taking Tamiflu
Tamiflu can be used for the treatment and prevention of flu in adults and children of more than one year of age. This medication is available in the pill form as well as in fruit flavored liquid form for children who have difficulty in swallowing the capsule. You can take Tamiflu with or without food. There can be reduced potential of stomach upset if Tamiflu is taken with the light snack, milk or meal.
Side Effects
There can be rare but serious skin and allergic reactions with the Tamiflu. You should stop taking Tamiflu if you have any of these reactions. There can be risk of self injury in children and adults with flu if they take Tamiflu. Therefore you should monitor any sign of unusual behavior and you should contact your doctor immediately in case of any problem. There can be mild to moderate nausea and vomiting with the Tamiflu and it is generally well tolerated. You should take different precautions while taking Tamiflu.
If you are allergic to oseltamivir phosphate or any other ingredients of Tamiflu then you should not take Tamiflu. Pregnant women should not use this medication and they should tell their doctor in this case. You should consult your doctor before taking Tamiflu if you have any type of kidney disease. There can be possibility of interference between Tamiflu and intranasal flu vaccine therefore intranasal flu vaccine should not be given within two weeks after taking Tamiflu unless it is prescribed by doctor. You should also tell your doctor if you are taking any other medication before taking Tamiflu.
